Early with the first Mauritanian immigrants to the great Washington area, there has always been the desire with successive attempts to create a community association that deals with the many challenges facing them in their new home.

Building on the principles, solidarity, mutual aid, and hospitality which are characteristic to Mauritanian people, community members have consistently translated those principles into a tangible reality here in their second home country.

Year after year, community members’ efforts have evolved into forms of association which little by little have developed into and organized association with defined objectives and mission aiming at strengthening the cohesion, the team work, and the efficiency in addressing common challenges and keeping alive the principles and cultural identity while contributing positively to enriching the US society make up.
